The Late Paleolithic Makhadma sites (Egypt): environment and subsistence

late prehistory of the nile basin and the sahara2 • Published In 1989 • Pages: 87-114

By: Vermeersch, P. M., Paulissen, Etienne, Neer, W. van.

Abstract
Vermeersch et al. excavated two of the five Makhadma sites. They found stone tools, fish and other faunal remains, hearths, and post holes that may indicate the inhabitants were drying or preserving the fish they were catching. The sites are located up against the 20 meter northern scarp where there would have been some of the first opportunities to fish as the Wild Nile flood levels lowered.
