Genetic characteristics of Athapaskan-speakers: the problem of genetic relationships

Abstract
Szathmary presents a 'summary of the current knowledge of the genetic characteristics of Athapaskan-speaking populations. The traits are then examined to determine the nature of the relationship within these groups and their putative relationship with non-Athapaskan-speaking populations.' Szathmary concludes that presently the data show there is no relationship between degree of genetic difference and geographic distance or linguistic affinity because of the small size of the data set. More genetic information must be collected (most sample sizes were below 100 individuals) before meaningful answers can be obtained.
