Abstract
Hosley proposes the shift from a hunting emphasis to a fishing emphasis among the Athapaskans of the Alaskan Plateau was brought about by the acculturative pressures of the contact period (circa 1800 - 1930). Therefore fishing would have been much less important to these groups in prehistoric times.
