Terminal Classic lowland Maya: successes, failures, and aftermaths

late lowland maya civilization : classic to postclassicAlbuquerque • Published In 1986 • Pages: 409-430

By: Freidel, David A..

Abstract
Freidel examines the 'political' economies and argues for the existence of cartels during the Classic Period. These cartels existed between certain city/states. Freidel believes the Classic 'collapse' in the southern Maya Lowlands could be tied to competition over trade and the rise of new cartels in the north.
