Abstract
Barnes examines the spread of rice agriculture in Japan from 3000 B.P. to 1700 B.P. Only the data that might pertain to the Yayoi period were indexed for OCM (Outline of Cultural Materials) subjects. Barnes also discusses how rice got to Japan and how the genetic population appears to have changed. Described are the tools and ceramics, the type of paddies seen, along with a general description of Yayoi culture and its differences from north to south.
