By: Howells, W. W. (William White).

Abstract
Howells compares skull measurements from modern and prehistoric East Asia populations, including some Pacific Islanders and American Indians. The dates on the material range from 9,000 years ago to the present. Only the data that are or may be pertinent to Yayoi were indexed for OCM (Outline of Cultural Materials) subjects. He used multivariate analysis of the cranial measurements to determine how closely related various populations are or were. His conclusions differ from Hanihara's in eHRAF document number 6. His Jomon sample was distinct from the Japanese sample and the Yayoi appear to have been immigrants who contributed greatly to the modern Japanese gene pool.
