Abstract
The author takes an expansive view of the Yangshao subtradition as composed of many widespread regional cultures, which are briefly described. The following subtraditions can be considered to belong to the Middle-Upper Yellow River Middle Neolithic Tradition: Banpo, Xiyin, Majiayao, Banshan, Miaozigou, Dasikong, Quanhu, Qinwangzhai, and, on the North China Plain, Hougang Stage I.
