Abstract
The author provides a summary of the Miaodigou subtradition, and of its transition into the Xiwangcun phase. Descriptions are given of settlements and settlement hierarchies, public buildings (often called "large houses") and other types of dwellings, types of pottery and pottery decorations indicating contacts with other regions, cemeteries and burials, etc. Some of these data are used to infer social complexity.
