Abstract
This is a brief account of the Neolithic period in the Belan Valley of India, as represented by the archaeological evidence from the Mahagara and Koldihwa sites. The interpretation of the data from these sites throws new light on animal domestication, house types, settlement patterns, rice agriculture, and the ceramic industry in the valley. Discussions on site materials from Chopani-Mando, Mahadaha, and Sarai-Nahar-Rai, have not been indexed for OCM categories since they represent the Mesolithic archaeological period in the Belan and Ganga Valleys.
