Abstract
This study presents some preliminary observations of the Koldihwa mound site located approximately 80 km. southeast of Allahabad on the left bank of the Belan River in the Meja sub-division of Allahabad district, Uttar Pradesh, India. The site represents three occupational levels: the Neolithic, Chalcolithic, and Iron Age phases. The primary focus of this article, however, is on the Neolithic period at Koldihwa. Much of the data in this document relate to the lithic and ceramic assemblages at Koldihwa with comparisons made to other archaeological sites in the Indian states of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
