Abstract
This German work is a study of the Copper-Age Varna cemeteries and how the death rituals relate to the Kodzadermen-Bumelnita-Karanovo VI complex. Lichardus describes in detail the positions of the people buried and the grave goods. Among ornamental items and tools made out of shell, gold, and copper, most noticeable are the clay masks and T-formed idols. The author associates the grave goods with the dead as prestige symbols beonging to people born into a certain class.
