Investigations of plant remains preserved on epipalaeolithic sites in the Near East

natufian culture in the levantAnn Arbor, Mich.Published In 1991 • Pages: 391-397

By: Colledge, Sue.

AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
Colledge outlines some of the problems inherent in archaeobotanical investigation and at Wadi Hammeh 27 in particular. She then goes on to discuss plant use among the modern Bedouin in the Sinai and Negev as a comparison to Natufians in the same area. She points out how few plant species of those used can be expected to be found in the remnants of a camp fire and how all seeds found should not assume to have been a food source. Colledge then gives guidelines to follow for maximum recovery of botanical remains.
