Reese presents a survey of the 'shell collections from Upper Paleolithic to Neolithic sites of Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Jordan, and the Sinai.' (page 613). He concludes Dentalium shells are not a hallmark of the Natufian as they are found both before and after it. Also the exchange of marine shells existed before and after the Natufian.
