AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
Catherine Perlés and James L. Phillips were the discussants for the Natufian conference, but had limited prior experience with the Natufian period and culture. They saw the conference as trying to answer the fundamental question of what is the Natufian. They present several models to try to explain the co-existence of the three kinds of sites found in this area (large, maybe permanent sites; smaller, semi-permanent sites with architectural features found in the hills; and small sites located in the desert).
