Abstract
Le Miére and Nieuwenhuyse provide an extensive preliminary report on the ceramics from the excavations at Sabi Abyad where over 70,000 pieces of pottery had been uncovered during the 1988-1993 excavation seasons. They describe the new material, discuss the stratigraphic sequence and chronology, and explain how the ceramics fit into a regional and interregional perspective. As the ceramics come from levels that date from the Neolithic to the Early Halaf, only the data that pertains to the Transitional to the Early Halaf time periods has been indexed for OCM (Outline of Cultural Materials) subjects. They describe how the ceramics were analyzed, the types of wares found, the forms (bowls, jars, etc.), and types of decorations. Almost half of the document is illustrations of various ceramic pieces.
