Cavallo writes a preliminary analysis of the faunal remains from levels 8 to 1 at Tell Sabi Abyad. The analysis is part of a Ph.D thesis in preparation. In general, the faunal material was in a poor state of preservation, but more species were identified when compared with the earlier analysis of the 1986 field season. Although hunting decreases in importance through the time period, the number of species hunted broadens as the people of Sabi Abyad turn to more opportunistic hunting. The meat portion of the diet emphasizes domestic species as pastoralism is an important part of the economy. Only the material that may pertain to the Transitional Halaf to Early Halaf, levels 6-1, were indexed for OCM (Outline of Cultural Materials) subjects.
