The earliest evidence for metalurgy in ancient Mesopotamia

Abstract
Merpert and Munchaev present the evidence of early metallurgy in northern Mesopotamia. Use of copper and lead can be found well before 'Chalcolithic' cultures and instead appears soon after the first ceramics with the early agricultural populations. Although chemical analysis of some of the metal samples has been performed, the source of the metals is still unknown.
