Abstract
This work, in German, is essentially a study of the material culture of the Scythians based in part on the analysis of grave goods, and in part on the data provided in the early Greek and Roman historical accounts. The author reviews the early Greek and Roman literature on the Scythians, and then describes the geography of the region, Scythian culture history, social and political organization, the formation of the state, economy, trade, characteristics of the Scythian way of life, archaeological finds from the Dnieper River area, mythology, art, religion, cult of the dead, and culture comparisons between Scythians and neighboring (non-Scythian) societies. Cultural data on these neighboring societies, such as the Neurer, Maioten Melanchlainen, Sauromaten, Budiner, and Geloner, have not been indexed.
