Abstract
This article discusses the diffusion of 'Ubaid pottery into western Syria, using as a basis of analysis two geographically separate sites within the western 'Ubaid-related horizon, Hama and Tell Kurdu. Thuesen examines a number of pottery sherds from each site, and, using a set of variables such as fabric, shape/typology, and decoration, inputs these data into the SPSS analysis system (Statistical Packet for the Social Sciences)to draw comparisons between the two areas. The results indicate both similarities and differences of the sample with that of the traditional 'Ubaid pottery style, but nevertheless, are similar enough to reflect the far-reaching influence of the 'Ubaid tradition from the Mesopotamian heartland on a very large geographical region.
