Abstract
D'Altroy calls the idea of the Temple-state one of the major intellectual insights in Mesopotamian studies. In this article the author comments on some of the advances made by other scholars, such as Algaze, Nissen, Pollock, Stein, Rothman, Schwartz and others in the study of various unresolved issues in regard to Mesopotamia, bringing in in the process some comparative perspectives from the Andes of South America. Much of the data presented here are theoretical in nature.
