Late Paleolithic sites in Egyptian Nubia

prehistory of nubia; [final report] papers assembled and (5) • Published In 1968 • Pages: 791-953, 1061-1075

By: Wendorf, Fred.

Abstract
Wendorf describes the sites near Ballana and Tushka. The sites consisted mainly of stone tools. Four main lithic industries were found: Ballanan, Halafan, Qadan, and Sebilian. Faunal remains were found at many of the sites. Several burials were also found near Tushka. They are briefly described here. Most interesting are the numerous milling stones, handstones, and fire-cracked rock found in the Tushka vicinity. These seem to indicate processing of wild grains or grasses for many thousands of years and the development of a 'ground grain complex.'
