Abstract
Von der Way describes the results from two of the field seasons at Buto. (There had been 7 previous field seasons.) The strata are described. Of particular interest at Buto is the fact that one of the stratum shows a transition from a Lower Egyptian tradition to an Upper Egyptian tradition. During this time pottery changes gradually and mud brick buildings were built. It appears that cultural unification occured before political unification.
