Abstract
This document presents a survey of several archaeological sites associated with the Eastern Arctic Small Tool cultures of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut of Canada, and in northwest Greenland, with a primary emphasis on the Pre-Dorset, Independence I, and Arctic Small Tool phases. The author begins his discussion with a brief account of archaeological discoveries in the area, and then proceeds to analyze the various sequential stages of cultural history at the sites investigated, particularly those on Baffin Island and in northwestern Greenland. Based on the analysis of the artifacts and architectual structures found at these sites the author reconstructs the life-styles of the Pre-Dorset population such as their settlement patterns, dwellings, food gathering activities, and other domestic activities. The work is well illustrated with numerous figures illustrating various artifacts of the predominately lithic industry.
