Analysis of 1984 stratum 8E levels

Late Archaic components at Modoc Rock Shelter, Randolph County, Illinois, by Steven R. Ahler … [et al (48) • Published In 1992 • Pages: 118-123

By: Ahler, Steven R., Styles, Bonnie Whatley.

Abstract
Ahler and Styles analyzed the 1984 data for the Stratum 8E levels to determine if they represent a residential camp or a resource extraction location. To do this they needed to analyze the assemblage diversity. However, during the 1987 excavations, Stratum 8E was removed a a single level and the individual occupations could not be segregated. So they used the data from the 1984 excavations in which Units G and H were excavated in 10 cm levels. The diversity of the lithic tools and faunal species indicate Stratum 8E was a generalized short-term habitation camp.
