Abstract
This chapter presents the history of research in the Swift Creek area and gives an introduction to Swift Creek. It also contains an introduction to the upcoming chapters (eHRAF document nos. 11-24). The authors observe, 'that these people were excellent wood carvers. Such a tradition of detailed wood carving would not…have been born in and limited to the carving of paddles for stamping pottery.' (page 10).
