Abstract
'This study is an attempt to define partially [sic] the Swift Creek phenomenon by focusing on its northern and eastern peripheral manifestations…. This study relies primarily on published reports that identify Swift Creek components, supplemented by a partial review of state archaeological site files in Tennessee, South Carolina, and Georgia.' (pages 19-20). Elliot mostly describes the sites and locations where Swift Creek ceramics were found. He sometimes distinguishes between Late and Early Swift Creek ceramics or Middle and Late Woodland ceramics. Where the distinction is made, only the data that pertain to Middle Woodland or Early Swift Creek finds were indexed for OCM (Outline of Cultural Materials) subjects.
