Abstract
Mason summarizes the Late Woodland time period for the region around the Great Lakes. Included in this are descriptions for Blackduck, Effigy Mound, Heins Creek, Mackinac, Princess Point, Hunter's Home, Oneota, Owasco and Proto-Iroquois, Ontario Iroquois, Younge (Western Basin), Bois Blanc, and Juntunen. Mason describes the diagnostic attributes such as point types, other stone tools, ceramics, type of economy, and settlement pattern. These items are compared with other cultures or traditions and the origins of some cultures are proposed. Population movements are also briefly discussed where appropriate.
