AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
Walthall, Stow and Karson are interested in the trade of galena and how much, by weight, has actually been found in Ohio. They conducted a trace element analysis of three galena sources: the Tri-States District, Illinois-Kentucky, and the Upper Mississippi Valley. Artifacts from Ohio, Copena, Mandeville, and McQuorquodale were also subject to trace element analysis and discriminant analysis to determine their actual sources. They found the galena was all from the Upper Mississippi Valley source which would have been along the copper exchange route.
