Abstract
Smith and MacNeish discuss the research objectives and theoretical orientation of their research in the Jornada region, which is basically the origins of agriculture, and how they came to excavate at Pintada Rockshelter. They describe the environment of Rough Canyon where the shelter is located (flora, fauna, climate, geology) and some of the cultural remains that were found there.
