preliminary investigations of the archaic in the region of las cruces, new mexico (9) • Published In 1993 • Pages: 48-67

By: Anderson, Sally.

Abstract
Anderson describes the environment of the southern Tularosa Basin including the geography, flora, fauna, and climate. She discusses the land use of the area based on the findings of Carmichael's intensive surface survey data of Maneuver Area 3-8 and also includes several nearby excavated Archaic sites from a range of ecological areas in her data. The intensive surface survey found 174 nonceramic sites that could be typologically dated to the Archaic. Anderson presents trends in land use and settlement patterns for the Gardener Springs through the Hueco phases.
