Abstract
This paper is basically a study of the relationship between environment and human behavior written in historical perspective. Much of the data discusses various conceptual models of this topic by a number of noted anthropologists such as Harold S. Colton, Julian Steward, Leslie White, and others, and attempts to bring to bear a tremendous amount of natural and cultural data for explanations pertinent to the development of Anasazi culture and perhaps the evolution of complex societies in general.
