Abstract
The research described in this study is based on dendroclimatic data. Its goals are to reconstruct a local expression of high-frequency variation in regional climate, as has been modeled by tree-ring data ...and to observe the effects of this variation on the distribution and productivity of arable land farmed by dryland agricultural techniques and the regional potential human carrying capacity. An approach pioneered by Rose and his colleagues ... was further developed to reconstruct soil moisture values and potential agricultural yield for specific soils in given elevational settings on an annual basis during the late occupation of the Mesa Verde area, from AD 901 to 1300 (p. 214).
