Journal of archaeological research5 (4) • Published In 1997 • Pages: 345-384

By: Pollard, Helen Perlstein.

Abstract
This is an overview of recent research in the Mexican states of Michoacán, Jalisco, Colima, southern Nayarit, southern Zacatecas, and central and southern Guanajuato. It contains a bibliography of recent literature (pages 379-384). Pollard examines west Mexico's relationship to Mesoamerica, Pacific coast contacts between west Mexico and South America (specifically Ecuador), and west Mexico's relationship with the American Southwest. These relationships have been the central theme of recent research. Pollard gives a regional prehistory synthesis starting with the Paleo-Indian period up through the Postclassic. She discusses material culture changes, migrations, contact between neighboring cultures, and settlement patterns.
