By: Robles Castellanos, Fernando, Andrews, Anthony P..
Abstract
The first half of this chapter is mostly a synthesis of recent research in the northern Yucatan Peninsula. Robles Castellanos and Andrews then discuss the political and economic spheres of the peninsula which centered around Coba in the east and Chichen Itza and later Mayapan in the west. In their chapter they discuss the arrival of the Itza and what kind of influences they had on the Yucatec Maya. In discussing the Itza, ceramics and long-distance trade are briefly discussed.
