The Early Northwest South America tradition is one of nomadic or semi-nomadic peoples living in coastal regions of Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, and Panama, between 9000 and 5500 BP. What little is known about community organization suggests presence of small numbers of extended families of 10-25 individuals. Subsistence practices involved hunting, fishing, and collecting seasonally available resources. There is also evidence for early horticulture, the earliest evidence of plant cultivation in the Americas.
