Abstract
Stothert summarizes the excavations and analyses at site OGSE-80 in Ecuador. This site is the type site for the Las Vegas culture. Stothert describes the artifacts, burials, settlement data, economy, and faunal and floral remains from the site. There is evidence of plant collection before 8000 B.P. (bottle gourd and primitive maize) and Stothert speculates that these plants were probably cultivated. Stothert examines the prehistoric and current environment on the Santa Elena Peninsula and concludes the climate is much the same, with most differences being accounted for through modern deforestation and other modern land practices.
