Abstract
Tokyo University archaeologists excavated at Las Haldas on the north coast of Peru in 1958 and 1969. This report presents some results of the later excavations directed by Matsuzawa, concentrated on revealing the relationship between Terraces III and IV, forming a major section of the temple complex. Detail is provided on stratigraphy and architectural features. Radiocarbon dating proved inconclusive. The early ceramics indicate an Initial period date, but excavations did not reach earliest levels. The quantity of midden indicates continuous occupation over a long period, sustained by maritime resources supplemented by exchange with Casma Valley communities for agricultural produce.
