Abstract
Williams describes the architecture of the central and north coasts of Peru, presenting evidence for the diffusion of religious architectural traits within the region (in particular the U-shaped pyramid complex and the circular sunken plaza) and hypotheses concerning their origins, and the pathways and timing of their spread. Chavín de Huantar is compared to the coastal sites.
