Abstract
This is an overview of the Formative Period of coastal and highland Peru. The Lower Formative is defined as those areas with Formative culture prior to the spread of Chavín iconography. Descriptions are provided for early ceramics and architecture from the north to the south coastal regions: from the Jequetepeque to the Ica valley.
