Abstract
Daggett covers the history of the study of Paracas textiles starting from around 1905 when looted examples appeared on the market. Some two decades later, the pioneering Peruvian archaeologist Julio C. Tello, who had expended considerable effort tracking down and studying the textiles, was able to persuade a looter to reveal to him the location of one of the sites on the Paracas Peninsula. Detail is provided about the individuals involved, the squabbles between them, where some the specimens ended up, and the early scientific excavations.
