Paracas Necropolis bundle 89: a description and discussion of its contents

paracas art & architecture : object and context in south coastal peruIowa City • Published In 1991 • Pages: 172-221

By: Paul, Anne.

Abstract
Paul documents the contents of a Paracas Necrópolis (late subtradition) burial bundle, with particular attention to the textiles and their artistic designs. Comparison is made with three other bundles from the cemetery, including identification of items possibly made by the same hand, and speculation on the number and social relationships of the weavers. The probable social status of the individual inside the bundle also is discussed, along with the general religious beliefs of the people of Paracas. Artistically, the bundle pertains to the first century or two of the Early Intermediate period, but has been treated as representative of the Paracas subtradition, pertaining to this collection.
