Abstract
This is an introduction by the editor to the 1991 volume [i]Paracas art & architecture[/i]. It begins with a history of the early discoveries from the Paracas Peninsula and neighboring valleys (the Ica Valley in particular), including information on the pioneering investigators, notable sites, the eventual disposition of the artifacts, and scholarly disputes over chronology. The author then presents available radiocarbon evidence, and summarizes the state of knowledge about textiles, pottery, and architecture. Tables are presented for sites producing textiles their temporal and geographical distributions.
