Abstract
Jakes reports the results of preliminary chemical and physical analyses of a sample of textiles from Paracas mummy bundles, with the goal of developing methodologies and elucidating post-depositional degradations. It is established that many of the textiles had been used prior to inclusion in funerary wrappings. Some dye are identified, along with a mordant used in dying process, and favored combinations of dyes and fibers are noted. On the whole, the sample is considered representative of early Nazca for purposes of this collection.
