By: Murra, John V..

Abstract
In this article, Murra describes the political and territorial organization of the Aymara kingdom, Lupaqa, based on a 1567 administrative report by a Spanish crown inspector, Garica Diez. The report is an important document for Andean archeology, because it is the source of Murra's idea of 'verticality.' The report contains information about the productivity of the kingdom, its socio-political system, including coastal colonies and tribute system.
