Abstract
This brief article describes the megalithic tomb of Pedra Branca, at Montum on the west coast of Portugal. The significance of the site is that it is the first in Portugal to have yielded Beaker graves overlying earlier burials; '…prior to its discovery, no Beaker remains had ever been noted further south than Palmela, in the estuary of the Sado river, approximately 40 kilometers from Lisbon' (p. 167). In the text the authors discuss to great extent the cultural sratification and chronology of the tomb. Several illustrations at the end of the work show pottery types and examples of the engraved schist plaques found at the site.
