Abstract
This work (in German) is a highly detailed study of the fortified settlement of Zambujal in Portugal which existed during the Bell Beaker period of approximately 3000 B.C.-2000 B.C. The major portion of the work deals with the physical structures of the site itself -- walls, towers, houses, etc., with a much briefer section devoted to the description of the artifacts uncovered at Zambujal. At the end of the text are appended 125 plates showing photographs of various portions of the site, drawing of the artifacts found (mostly ceramics), and cross-sectional views of Zambujal. Zambujal may have functioned at one time as a major trading center.
