By: Phillips, Ann Patricia.

Abstract
Phillips presents an overview of the various sites of the Early Neolithic in Western Mediterranean Europe. She describes sites with Impressed Ware pottery that date to the 7th through the 5th millennium b.c. The majority of Impressed Ware sites date to the 5th millenium b.c. and it is these sites that were analyzed for this file. Phillips discusses the spread of Impressed Ware through the western Mediterranean and points out some of the regional differences to be found in their material culture. Also described are the lithic tools, open air and cave sites, dwellings, ornaments, and grave sites.
