A preliminary report on the quaternary geology and geoarchaeology of Hierakonpolis

Predynastic of Hierakonpolis: an interim report, Michael Allen Hoffman with by Barbara Adams … [et al (1) • Published In 1982 • Pages: 93-101

By: Hamroush, Hany A..

Abstract
Hamroush presents a preliminary report on the geomorphology, geology, and geoarchaeology of the Heirakonpolis area to help with a reconstruction of the geology of the Predynastic settlements. One of the more interesting findings concerns the 'large circular depressions … at Locality 54 … and once thought to be house pits … may be due to ancient sporadic rainfalls, where … water would accumulate … forming circular ponds.' (page 101).
