Abstract
This is a brief discussion of the history of Paleo-Eskimo research in Greenland beginning around 1830 and extending to approximately 1929. In this article the author describes the role of the Royal Society for Northern Antiquities in stimulating archaeological research in the area, the various artifact collections in existence at the time, and the contributions of such scholars as the Fleishers, Japetus Steenstrup, Lars Moller, and others to the study of Greenland archaeology.
