Abstract
Egloff discusses what the earliest pottery is in Virginia and where it is found. The different wares are described (Bushnell Plain, Marcey Creek Ware, Swannonoa Ware, etc.). With the early ceramics soapstone containers quickly stop being used in much of Virginia. Egloff also discusses some of the possible origins of pottery in Virginia and some of the possible impacts early ceramics had on the various groups.
